Apples & Cinnamon Oatmeal

This is one of my favorite cold morning breakfasts, especially on days that I know time between meals is going to be long. It's also a meal that takes less than 30 minutes to make, which is a plus if you're working under a tighter schedule. You can also swap out the apples for strawberries or blueberries.

Apples & Cinnamon Oatmeal
1 serving

Ingredients:
1 cup milk
1/2 tbsp unsalted butter
1/2 cup rolled oats
1/8 tsp salt
1 apple (I used Macintosh)
1 tsp sugar
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon

1. Rinse, peel, core, and slice apple. I usually use only 1/2 the apple and snack on the rest while the oatmeal cooks.

2. Combine milk and butter in a medium saucepan over medium-low heat. Stir frequently. Once butter is almost completely melted, add salt, apples, and sugar.

3. Make sure to keep the heat low so that the milk does not boil, stirring frequently.

4. Once the oats are almost done cooking (you'll know this by either tasting them, or by the increasing thickness of the oatmeal), add the cinnamon.

5. Continue cooking until the oats are no longer hard and the oatmeal has thickened to a nice consistency.

6. Enjoy!

The oatmeal in this picture looks more liquidy than it actually is, so do not fear if you enjoy a thicker oatmeal, as I do myself.
